Pert - pbrc emergency response Team
Please help us prepare for tomorrow today. With a small donation to our PERT Fund, we will more efficiently be able to help those in disaster areas.
We have created PERT to help serve Pit Bull's needs impacted by natural or human-created disasters. The last several years have seen scores of situations, ranging from extreme weather situations to dog-fighting cases. Large numbers of Pit Bulls were negatively impacted by disastrous events, often leading to confinement in temporary shelters for extended periods.
These situations include but are not limited to, the following:
PERT can help enrich the lives of Pit Bulls in these situations and facilitate their placement by providing direct support to other animal welfare organizations or agencies in charge of their care. Our programs include the following:
We are incredibly grateful to the many people who share our love of this breed, support us in our efforts to help needy Pit Bulls, donate their time, money, and love to save these wonderful dogs.
- Natural disasters: Hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.
- Human-created disasters; Dog-fighting, hoarding, shelter disbandment, etc.
PERT can help enrich the lives of Pit Bulls in these situations and facilitate their placement by providing direct support to other animal welfare organizations or agencies in charge of their care. Our programs include the following:
- Material Support: PERT has allocated funding specifically for the purchase of Kongs, toys, and other enrichment material that will help occupy and stimulate Pit Bulls in confinement as part of a disaster type of situation. We will work with networking with agencies to identify appropriate enrichment supplies and purchase these supplies having them shipped directly to the site to be provided to the dogs in need, making their situation a little more pleasant.
- Spay and Neuter Support: Through our existing PBRC spay/neuter programs, PERT can support Pit Bulls in disaster situations who have found placement with shelter or rescue partners. PERT can help agencies with funding spays and neuters of these dogs, making their transition to their new homes more successful and positive.
- Networking Support: PERT can leverage existing contacts across the Pit Bull rescue landscape to help market dogs from disaster situations after they've been assessed and deemed adoptable. By partnering to share information, we hope to create a broader pool of potential rescues, increasing the dog’s chances for proper placement. (DISCLAIMER: PERT is only assisting in developing visibility for these dogs and is not directly accountable for their assessment or placement).
- “Hands-On” Support: In limited cases, PERT may be able to provide on-site resources to assist with shelter setups, testing, or general support for agencies handling large numbers of Pit Bulls. Funding in this area is limited, but PERT will evaluate specific circumstances to determine our support feasibility.
We are incredibly grateful to the many people who share our love of this breed, support us in our efforts to help needy Pit Bulls, donate their time, money, and love to save these wonderful dogs.
