Keona Part 1

Today I get a call from one of the shelters about a female Pit Bull who is in desperate need of rescue. I begin listening to a tale of horror as I hear the story that surrounds this girl. As it goes…police were notified by a resident that there was a dog fight going on. When the police arrived to the scene they got animal control called out as well. What they find at the scene is a very large male Pit Bull, and a much smaller female Pit Bull. The male had allegedly broken loose from his underage care taker, and attacked this female dog, according to the caller. The female was tied by a cable around her neck and her leg, and was unable to free herself, or fight back. The result of that was tragic for her, as she could not fight back nor escape her attacker from tearing holes into her little body.
Animal control confiscated both dogs and turned them into the shelter. The female was almost immediately taken to the clinic to be treated for her wounds, which consisted of a large gaping hole in her front left leg, and a large gaping hole on the right side of her face, not to mention the multitude of smaller gashes, cuts, scrapes, bruises and tooth holes. She also has a bad wound around the leg that was tied by a cable that will probably scar her for life. The vet was able to stitch her head, but the area on the leg did not even have enough tissue left to work with, so that sore was left open and treated with a topical antibiotic. No one ever came forward to claim this female, although she has until Friday the 10th to see if anyone ever does. I tell the worker to send me pictures of her and let me have a few days to see what I can do for her.

An email comes in today from the shelter with pictures of the female who has been attacked. I gasped at the horrible state she was in. This poor girl must have been through God knows what to end up looking like that, and I could not even bear to imagine what all she might have gone through. Not only was she banged up from head to paw, but she also appeared to be emaciated. I immediately called my rescue partner and we begin talking about bringing this dog into our program. We decide to go ahead and bring her into our program to work with her and see if she will go on to make a good candidate for a forever home.
