Listed below are the most commonly used commands for the list processor. These commands can be directly sent to the list server, Pitbull-l, to simplify your life. Italics denote the variables that you need to change.
Basics
1. All commands sent via email to the list should be sent to lyris@pitbullinfo.net
You usually send email to the list as pitbull-l@pitbullinfo.net, and all users see your message. When you send a command to lyris@pitbullinfo.net no one will see your email. When you send an email to lyris@pitbullinfo.net, it is a private communication between you and the server.
2. When sending a command email to the server, the subject line will ALWAYS be blank.
3. The first line of the message (called the body), will always be the command string sent to the server. This is where you tell it what to do.
4. You will always get a confirmation email from Lyris Listmanager, stating whether your request succeeded or failed.
Commands
1. To switch your membership from one email address to another:
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with subject line left blank and the first line of the body with: set pitbull-l email=your new email
2. To have Pitbull-l unhold your account:
Send an email to unhold@pitbullinfo.net, with subject line left blank and no text in the body.
Do the administrators a favor and use this command yourself. It is quick and easy. It also saves the administrators the trouble of having to unhold your account. I personally have a listing in my address book named un. Whenever I think that I have been put on hold, I send a new mail to my friend un, and the server immediately tells me if I was on hold or not and then takes the appropriate action.
3. To search the Pitbull-l archive:
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with no subject and the first line of the body: search pitbull-l searchword
Note: searching the archives is currently turned off, but could change in the future.
4. To confirm your list settings:
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with no subject and the first line of the body: query pitbull-l
This will return the following info:
Your password
Your subscribed email address
Your name
Your membership status
Subscription type
Whether you get Acknowledgements
If you get a Copy of your emails to the list
Date you joined
5. To change your password:
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with no subject and the first line of the body: set pitbull-l old password=oldpass pw=newpass
Can't remember your password? See #4 above and send a query.
6. To receive copies of your own postings;
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with no subject and the first line of the body: set pitbull-l repro
To turn it off:
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with no subject and the first line of the body: set pitbull-l norepro
7. To change the type of messages you receive:
Send an email to: lyris@pitbullinfo.net, with no subject and the first line of the body: set pitbull-l keyword
Keywords:

MIMEDigest – Receive daily digest with all the messages of the day in MIME format.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Pitbull-l member Jim - Datapusher, for compiling these commands. If you have any questions, please email the list administrators.
Folders and Mail Filters
Netscape Communicator: Under "EDIT" go to "mail filters." A box will open with several options. First, create a folder and name it "Pitbull-L" - Since all Pitbull-L messages have the word "Pitbull-L" in the Subject location, tell the filter to put those messages in the Pitbull-L folder. It should read like this: If the [subject] of the message [contains] [Pitbull-L] then [move to folder] [Pitbull-L]. Then if there is a place to turn on the filter, check that and click ok. The parts in the brackets are where you have to either choose something from a menu or type something in a box.
Microsoft Outlook 98: In the tool bar, click on the icon that says "Organize." Then select "Rules Wizard" (it is on the right hand side of the "Ways to Organize Inbox" bar). Click "new". From there make it read, "Apply this rule after the message arrives from PitBull-L@pitbullinfo.net, move it to Pitbull-L folder."
