Updates on the EDNAH Pit Bulls

After hurricanes Katrina and Rita many animals, including at least 100 pit bulls, were placed in what was thought to be a legitimate animal sanctuary in Arkansas called Every Dog Needs A Home (EDNAH).  Last week the police raided this sanctuary and found a living nightmare.  The conditions were beyond horrible with dogs suffering, some having been locked in crates for over 10 days without exercise and left exposed to the cold with no cover.  An animal hoarder was exposed.

These dogs are now caught up in a legal case, but hopefully will be  released back to the organizations that shipped them there.  In the meantime, volunteers are caring for the animals and bettering their situation.

11/14/05:   This photo album has photos of the majority of the balance of dogs sent to Ednah by Pasado's Safe Haven.  Pasado's is working to get the dogs entered into Petfinder, but they are not available yet (11/14).

11/7/05:  The 22 Alabama dogs are all entered into Petfinders website for disaster animals.  Within 24 hours one dog was reunited with his owner!!

11/4/05:  The first 22 Ednah pit bulls are out and safe.

11/2/05:  Some photos of ednah dogs

10/27/05:   There was an emergency court hearing today regarding the release of the animals.  Some of the animals have been approved for release back to their original caretakers.

10/26/05:  Tia the founder of Villalobos Rescue Center in California has offered to take many pit bulls from EDNAH.  We are hopeful that those responsible  will place the dogs with Tia where we know the dogs will be safe and in the hands of experts.

Kris Crawford of For Pits Sake has been working with Tia and Desiree Bender of Where Angels Run to get supplies to the site until the dogs can be released into Tia's care.

Volunteers are needed email:  volunteer@forpitssake.org for details

Currently volunteers are needed at the EDNAH site, but if dogs are released to Villalobos Rescue Center, volunteers MAY be needed there as well (Southern California).

There are still many Katrina pit bulls in need of foster homes.  We are looking for rescues or independent foster homes who are able to help foster.   If you would like to offer to foster a dog please fill out one of our applications.  The overwhelming majority of these dogs are adults.
